Located in the heart of Stellenbosch, Scholtzenhof is one of the oldest wine farms on the Cape. The first vines were planted in 1694. After some early successful production and multiple owners, the property fell on hard times in the early 1990s prior to the release on Mandela and the first democratic elections.
When the Forrester family took over in 1993, they replanted all the vines and it wasn’t long before the awards and accolades started pouring in. In 1996, Ken Forrester made a very prosperous decision to try out a Grenache/Syrah blend using the 50 year old vines on the estate This was a unique idea in South Africa and the Grenache vineyard was the only one in Stellenbosch.
